News Release: June 29, 2015
Important changes to the American National Standard Institute's Minimum Requirements for Workplace First Aid Kits and Supplies have been approved. The ISEA (International Safety Equipment Association has received approval from ANSI for the revised standard. ANSI/Z308.1-2015 was approved by a review panel of health and safety experts, trades, unions, and other user groups.
The revisions include significant changes including two specified classes of first aid kits. Class A kits address common workplace injuries including minor cuts, scrapes, abrasions, and sprains. Class B kits offer more types and quantities of supplies meant to deal with workplace injuries or high-risk environments. The kit type designation from the previous standard has been carried over. Employers now have more flexibility in choosing the appropriate container and supplies based on their environment, types of injuries, potential risks, and other potential factors. See the ANSI A list and ANSI B list below for reference.
Revisions to the minimum requirements were made because of increasing workplace injury incident rates as well as current practices in treating injuries. The standard goes into effect in June of 2016. The supply chain is preparing the products and packaging to support the requirements set forth by the new ANSI revision.
