Personal protective equipment, or PPE, is necessary to creating a safe environment at any work site. To be fully protected, you'll have to go beyond a hard hat. In fact, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises considering comprehensive PPE when you do an initial hazard assessment. This includes:
Eye, face, hearing and head protection. Depending on the conditions, workers may require respirators, well-fit safety glasses, earplugs and ear muffs and hard hats, among other protective gear.
Body protection, including foot and leg, as well as arm and hand protection. Keep in mind that workers will need different gloves and shoes depending on the situation.
And don't forget to have spare PPE on hand in case items get lost or damaged.
